Ingredients

- 1 medium banana blossom (fresh, sliced thinly)
- 1 cup grated coconut (fresh is preferred, but dried will work)
- 1 small red onion (finely chopped)
- 2-3 green chilies (chopped, adjust to taste)
- 1-2 limes (juiced)
- 1 tsp Maldivian chili powder or paprika (for a milder option)
- Salt (to taste)
- A handful of curry leaves (optional, finely chopped for added flavor)
- 1 tbsp Maldivian fish paste (optional for non-veg, like Rihaakuru)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Banana Blossom
   - Remove the outer layers of the banana blossom, revealing the soft inner layers. Slice these layers thinly and soak them in salt water for a few minutes to reduce bitterness. Drain and rinse well.

2. Mix Ingredients
   - In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced banana blossom with grated coconut, red onion, green chilies, and chopped curry leaves if using.

3. Add Seasonings
   - Add lime juice, Maldivian chili powder (or paprika), and salt. For a non-vegetarian twist, mix in a spoonful of Maldivian fish paste.

4. Toss and Serve
   - Mix everything thoroughly to allow the flavors to meld. Adjust seasoning to taste. Serve immediately as a side dish or salad, garnished with fresh curry leaves if desired.

Tips for Making Boshi Mashuni

- Freshness Matters: Fresh coconut and banana blossom add authenticity and richer flavors to the dish. Frozen or dried options can work but might alter the taste slightly.
- Customize Heat Level: Adjust the number of green chilies and chili powder according to your spice preference.
- Make It Vegan: Simply omit the fish paste to keep this dish fully plant-based.
